Whelan + friends: Griffiths

Opera star Paul Whelan in Australia for one concert only, to premiere ‘Such A Fine, Sunny Day’ by Melbourne composer Alan Griffiths. Paul will be accompanied by a dramatic piano duet played by Australian virtuoso and international multi-award recipient Nicholas Young and Taiwanese concert pianist Megoe Chen.

Special guests are Australian multi-award winning string players cellist Gemma Kneale and violinist Zoe Freisberg. ANAM Alumni’s Zoe, Gemma and Nicholas will play some of Alan’s well-received chamber work. Concert includes two Australian Premieres of Alan’s newest piano pieces and select pieces from his acclaimed Introspection album.

Igor and Olga Piano Duo: Rachmaninov

THE LAST ROMANTIC

Igor and Olga Piano Duo (Igor Machlak and Olga Kharitonova) present a program for two pianos celebrating the double anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninov, featuring original compositions and arrangements for two pianos by the great Russian composer as well as Olga and Igor's own transcriptions of his music.

This year is significant for lovers of Rachmaninov's music as the world will be celebrating the composer's 150th birthday as well as 80 years since his death. This versatile and entertaining program explores a vast variety of Rachmaninov's creative genius and covers the whole life of the composer from his years as a recent graduate to his last year and his last composition.

Chong + Roberts + Miller + Cossom: Barreau & Bartók

 TWO PIANOS AND PERCUSSION

Kristian Chong and Cameron Roberts team up with Brent Miller and Robert Cossom to deliver a powerful double bill of music for pianos and percussion from the composers Gisèle Barreau (Australian Premiere) and Béla Bartók.

Award-winning French composer Gisèle Barreau is a professor at the Paris Conservatoire and a former student of, among others, Olivier Messiaen. Her accoladed composition Blue Rain (1998) for two pianos and percussion is guaranteed to delight with its evocative textures and powerful statements.

Hungarian composer Béla Bartók is considered one of the most pioneering and influential 20th-century composers. His monumental Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion (1937) is a staple in the repertoire, pushing the boundaries of chamber music and the expectations of a percussionist.

SUNDAY SOIRÉE

Join the Team of Pianists for an intimate soirée recital in the historic Drawing Room at Glenfern as part of the 2023 Rigg Bequest Classic Music in Historic Venues Series.

Elizabeth Sellars (violin) and Rohan Murray (piano) perform Bach's Sonata in E Major BWV 1016 and Debussy's mercurial Violin Sonata in G minor. Rohan Murray and Robert Chamberlain perform a piano duet arrangement of Liszt's famous Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 before Robert takes us on a journey through the music of Chopin.
