THE WORDS THEMSELVES

Music says what words cannot, however, put the two together and you’re in for a night of astonishing storytelling. ABC Young Performer of the Year Eliza Shephard combines words and music to create an experience that deep-dives into stories both old and unfamiliar.

With standard flute repertoire, their performance explores cascading lines and impeccable technique through to theatrical and physical journeys transcending the expected and the norm, Eliza showcases all her past creative adventures as not only a musician but also an actor and dancer.

Joined by versatile soprano Judith Dodsworth and exceptional pianist Peter de Jager, the three artists spiral through works in an evening of celebration and spell-binding entertainment.

Jones + Wong: Debussy, Franck & Fauré

FIFTY YEARS AND FRENCH!

This flute and piano recital will include wonderful repertoire of the French Impressionistic and Romantic times. Featuring the famous L'Après Midi d'un Faune by Debussy arranged for flute and piano by famous flutist Platanov, the iconic Franck Sonate originally composed for violin and piano but arranged for flute by Jean Pierre Rampal who also made this a very well known addition to the flute repertoire. Also included is the beautiful Morceau de Concours by Gabriel Fauré. This is one of the competition pieces commissioned annually for the Paris Conservatoire flute students as a yearly competition but now used as the repertoire for entrance to the Conservatoire. And the well known Syrinx for solo flute by Debussy is also featured.

The Fifty years in the title refers to the number of years since Derek Jones began playing the flute! This recital will be a journey through time both for Derek personally and also as we step into the wonderful world of French flute music in the late 1900s. Jerry Wong will join Derek on the piano.
