Our first Founders' Fund project
Our first project is focussed on musicians who are still students. Often young chamber musicians are searching for music that is challenging but playable, and which can be reasonably easily adapted for different instrument groupings. We want to help them find new music by Australian composers that is within their capabilities.
Naturally, we thought of Inventi Ensemble as a source of inspiration. Inventi specialise in creating chamber versions of orchestral works, and they frequently perform these works in schools, often giving the audience their first opportunity to hear a live performance of such works. The ensemble comprises the unusual combination of flute, oboe, bassoon, violin, viola and cello, so they understand the challenges of blending different voices into a coherent and musical whole.
“this instrumentation, while a non-standard sextet, comprises common instruments in school and conservatoire programs often in search of chamber repertoire. I’m optimistic that the work will have a home with these up-and-coming ensembles, building on Inventi’s legacy.”
Inventi have recently received a grant from the City of Melbourne to bring four concerts into the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, at which this commissioned work will be premiered. Cameron Lam is meeting with staff and visiting the Centre to create a piece of music that is meaningful and for this purpose.
Our Founders’ Fund has raised the money required to commission Cameron Lam to write the work, and to support Inventi in performing the work in their 2026 concerts, especially those in schools.
