Haydn Reeder: SOLOS DUOS TRIOS

Haydn Reeder: SOLOS DUOS TRIOS
Danaë Killian, Rosanne Hunt, Elton Sun, Johanna Selleck
Susan Pierotti, Katia Mestrovic, Barbara Hornung, Philip Nixon

There are ten pieces, each with a unique character. They mainly date from the period 2012 to 2023, the exception being Tolling Bell Song for piano, written in 1998. Throughout, expressiveness is the aim of the music. The language is highly wrought and the titles mostly indicative of the content, for example Flowering of the Resonances, the second movement of the Piano Trio; Lines in a Landscape a trio for flute, viola and harp; Waxing and Waning, a duo for flute and violin; Rondo for piano which begins in a nineteenth century / Expressionistic style which forms the basis of either more extreme, or very clear variations. The latter could be included alongside a set of four recent pieces in which repetition is either developing or static, yet directed towards a dramatic narrative.
