Latitude 37: Becker, Erlebach, Richmann, Buxtehude & Biber
17 August @ 19:00 - 20:00$24 – $44
Latitude 37 explores the richness of the 17th century imagination in a programme brimming with fantasy and fireworks.
Characterised by the use of short, dramatically contrasting episodes, a free form and new heights of instrumental virtuosity, the stylus phantasticus gives free reign to passionate style of improvisation and rhetorical composition, in an active rebellion against the strict conservative style common to the late renaissance period. This technique was exploited by composers in Saxony, Bavaria, Austria and Moravia reaching its zenith at the end of the 1600’s, and influencing some of the greatest composers of the baroque era such as JS Bach.
