Egerton ANAM Recital: Ravel & Bartok
Tue 19 September @ 11:00 - 12:00
Free – $10Harry Egerton (violin)
Maurice Ravel and Béla Bartók are two of the finest composers from the modern era of western music: their musical voices are both distinct and utterly identifiable. While original and individual, their music also brings an openness to other soundscapes from around the world. We hear the ethnomusicological interest of both composers shining in both works on this program. Between the outer movements of Violin Sonata No. 2, Ravel iconically captures the flavour of American jazz music with bluesy chords and expressive glissandi. In his Violin Concerto No. 2, Bartok celebrates the musical world of his native Hungary with soaring melodies, emphatic rhythms and improvisatory virtuoso passage.
