Duo Kirsanova-Lewis + Williams: Auerbach, Ešenvalds, Rachmaninoff, Coleridge-Taylor, Heller & Messiaen
31 August @ 18:00 - 19:10
$20 – $25This program explores themes around the difficult experiences of our time, with music written through history as a response to great loss or catastrophic events. The capacity to rise above horror to create beauty is displayed with poignancy in Olivier Messiaen’s music of sheer and devastating other-worldliness, written and premiered in prisoner-of-war camps in the early days of World War II.
This capacity is reinforced in the music of Rachmaninov, Auerbach, Heller, Coleridge-Taylor, Ešenvalds. Transcendent, gripping and honest, each work is an ode to the soul’s capacity to find connection and meaning even in times of great suffering.
