Eltham-based pianist/composer Nat Bartsch has long been known for creating meditative, beautiful music that deftly walks a spectrum from classical to jazz. In 2017, Nat became a mother and recorded her acclaimed album of lullabies, Forever, and No Time At All.
Her compositions are influenced by music therapy research and her son’s stages of development, and designed to encourage babies to sleep. However, equally importantly, the music is intended to be soothing for adults—for if the whole family is calm, the baby is more likely to be calm. The album has far exceeded its aim: not only soothing many young children (and their parents), but played across the lifespan, and across the world, often in deeply personal moments – from childbirth to the final hours of life. Her lullabies have been streamed more than 6 million times, and a jazz-reinterpretation Forever More, received a jazz-ARIA nomination in 2020.
