Arcadia Winds: Younan, Jolivet, Turley & Mozart

6 July @ 18:00 - 19:00

$30 – $37

Arcadia Winds are trailblazers for Australian wind music, known for their energetic, spontaneous and joyful style. The ensemble celebrates the plethora of compositions that exist for wind quintet from classical repertoire and new works by Australian composers to inventive arrangements of music spanning the ancient to the popular.

This performance explores the notion of destiny. Beginning with a piece by long-term collaborator Elizabeth Younan, Kismet is the newest wind quintet from this emerging luminary. Andre Jolivet’s Sérénade for Wind Quintet channels the composer’s obsession with mythology and ancient, primal music-making practices. This is followed by a world premiere by winner of the 2021 Arcadia Winds Composition Prize, Alex Turley, whose new composition is destiny-in-the-making. Rounding out the program is Mozart’s Serenade in E Flat, a composition of sparking phrases and miraculous delight.
