Dominic Flynn Awarded the
2025 Continuo Commission
“This is fantastic news! Thanks to you, the selection panel, and the Commissioning Circle members for making this possible!
I’m thrilled — so keen to get started on this new work!”
from Dominic Flynn, 2025 Continuo Composer on 22 April, 2024
Please join us in congratulating Dominic Flynn and Ensemble Mania on being awarded the Continuo Commissioning
Dominic’s music has been commissioned and performed both at home in Australia and overseas in Canada, Japan, Italy, Germany, and England.
Pieces of his have been selected for the official Australian submission to the ISCM World New Music Days festival as well as for the inaugural ANAM Set commissioning project, and have featured in the Ossa Music Prize winning concert and in the APRA Art Music Award nominated Two Minutes from Home project.
Dominic writes:
“Through this opportunity from the Continuo Commissioning Circle, I hope to reflect on a few key things: firstly, the political implications within my own artistic practice as a classical music composer in colonised Australia, secondly, the plethora of thoughts, feelings, questions, and answers that have arisen from the news of my Indigenous heritage, and finally on my father’s recent passing following a two year battle with cancer.”
The Continuo Directors would like to thank all the other applicants for your outstanding submissions. We recognise the passion and creativity that went into your submissions and encourage you to reapply for future rounds.
Finally, we extend our gratitude to this year’s Selection Panel for their kind and thoughtful consideration of each candidate. Thank you to Leigh Harrold, Elizabeth Younan and Marshall McGuire for their time and expertise in making this difficult decision.
