2025 CONTINUO COMMISSION UPDATE
It’s not long now before we start soliciting entries from composers for the 2026 Continuo Commission — it’s time for an update on how last year’s commission is proceeding.
Composer Dominic Flynn is writing a work called Pickett for Ensemble Mania. It will be premiered on 5 September, at the Meat Market.
We asked Dominic for some news to share about the project. He writes…
Dominic tells us that he has already worked on the piece with some of the individual members of Ensemble Mania, and is planning to workshop a draft with the full group in the near future.
He also sent us this picture of his desk, which gives you an idea of how he goes about composition, with paper, pencil, eraser and a cuppa.
“I was very lucky to have been able to participate in the Cultivate’s “La Baldi Residency” in Montegiovi, a village in Tuscany with a population of under 200 people. I was there for two weeks in October, working on my piece Pickett. It was extremely helpful to compose in the peace and quiet of the village, and immersing myself in the local culture was a powerful means to explore my multitudinous ancestry.”
